Hassanal Bolkiah

Hassanal Bolkiah, aka the Sultan of Brunei

When you have a fortune estimated at around $20 billion, you’re bound to have a few cars – somewhere between 4,000 and 7,000 cars, to be more exact. The Sultan of Brunei, also known by his non-titular name, Hassanal Bolkiah, is the ruling monarch and absolute dictator of the country that goes along with his title. Some of the highlights (which is an understatement) are a Lamborghini LM002 safari wagon and the Dauer 962 Le Mans, an extremely limited edition street-version of Porsche’s dominant 962 race car. This is a street legal Le Mans race car from the turbolicious Group C of the 1980s which accelerate up to 250 MPH! He likes his cars with custom modifications and he likes them to go fast. Real fast. He had a BMW 850CSi  augmented by Alpina and called the B12. In addition to adding fancy stripes and vents, the car was customized to include a V12 pumping out about 350 HP! Now, that’s royal results!

Jay Leno

Jay Leno

The two things that most people think of when they hear the name Jay Leno is his distinct look and his love of cars. To most gearheads, the once King of Late Night television has the ultimate car collection. Jay Leno’s tastes run the gamut of automotive history, from early steam-powered tourers to modern supercars, with a healthy dose of American muscle in between. His sprawling garage in Burbank, California is like a museum, including hundreds of cars ranging in styles and decades. This entire article could be sent going through every single one of his cars. A 1969 Lamborghini Miura S, a Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic SC, a 2014 McLaren P1 (one of only 375 built), and even a few oddities like a Chrysler Tank Car powered by the engine from an M47 Patton Tank (yes, you read that correctly) are just a few gems sitting in his garage. At the end of the day, the TV legend easily has one of the most legendary collections.

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren

One of the top designers in the world has one of the top cars in the race. It’s an understatement to say the McLaren F1 LM3 is fast. And don’t just take our word for it, Car and Driver stated, “Forget the Jaguar XJ220, Bugatti EB110, Ferrari F40—until now cars deserving to be called rapid. The McLaren blitzes them all.” Of course, Ralph Lauren had to add it to his already impressive collection. His particular eye for fashion also extends to his cars: Almost all of his cars are red. Lauren has had a special garage made at his New York estate where the cars sit on an all-white platform that is raised on a black carpet. Much of his collection of over 60 cars is comprised of classic like a 1938 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic Coupé and a 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster. Unlike some of the other collectors on this list, he actually drives all of them. Which is good, because we would hate to see the McLaren’s talent go to waste.

Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather

You aren’t going to come across too many garage with a Bugatti Veyron in it. Mayweather is one of the highest paid athletes in the world, which might increase even more if he ends up fighting Conor McGregor later this year (the rumor being as much as $1.3 mil. for each). With that kind of money, he can certainly afford a collection that includes a Ferrari Enzo and 458 Spider, a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, and a Porsche 911 Turbo S, just to name a few. I think it’s clear that his collection is a knock-out.

Ken Lingenfelter

Ken Lingenfelter

He may not be as recognizable of a name like Mayweather and Leno, but Ken Lingenfelter is the owner of one of the most comprehensive car collections in the world! The Lingenfelter Collection has over 200 cars spanning his 40,000-square-foot museum. He loves all cars, but his heart is set on the Corvette and other forms of American muscle. This love of GM products makes sense since Ken’s father worked at the Fisher Body company when it was predominantly responsible for making the bodies for the higher end GM products. Ken runs Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, a maker of products that have been instrumental in establishing performance thresholds. Some of the first cars that started his collection were a 77 Corvette Coupe and a 1969 Jaguar XKE.

The Ultimate Man Cave

Now-a-days the term “man cave” has truly evolved. What started out as a small corner of the house a man could call his own, has become the place men dream about; somewhere they can hang out, enjoy their collections and get away from it all, a place known as the ultimate man cave. Well now there are places for a man to do just this, in condominium suites that are air conditioned, with 24 hour security, and endless ways to customize. This article by Wes Siler discusses the garage condo and the ability people have to make it their own.

“Not enough room at home to house all your cars, beer, flat screens and buddies? Buy a garage condo and the wife will never nag you to store her minivan in there again.

The idea behind garage condos is fairly simple and works just like a regular condominium. A developer handles the permits, the property, the building construction, getting utilities hooked up etc, then you buy a unit, do you what you want with it and pay a monthly fee for services like snow removal, security and for communal services like the clubhouse.

Now you have the ability to create your own ultimate man cave at The Place in Chesterfield. The Place provides buyers with luxury garage space that can become whatever you can dream of. This private storage facility gives a country club feel complete with member’s common area.

Car Collectors Now Using Condos

An article entitled Car Enthusiasts Turning to Condos was published by The Washington Post a few years ago and is a great example of the new trend in storage. Car collectors and collectors of all kinds, have now started turning to an alternative in storage with luxury suites or condos.

In crowded urban areas the idea of buying a parking spot isn’t new.  According to a garage manager at the Brimmer Street Garage in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, a 180-square-foot space just sold for $200,000.

Parking spaces can be exposed to weather and the elements and careless other cars who may ding or scratch your vehicle. That’s why some enthusiasts are turning to car condos where their collection will be stored in individual, weatherproof, garages that are air conditioned with 24-hour security.

“It’s just peace of mind for my collection,” said deMartino, 47, who plans to store a 1930 Ford Model A coupe, a 1961 Corvette convertible, a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL and three special edition motorcycles in his condo.

Developer Kevin Buckley is opening his Park Place Car Condos in North Miami, and Fort Lauderdale with plans to open more locations in Las Vegas, Orlando, FL, New York and Scottsdale, AZ with in the next few years.

Buckley said so far, typical buyers have been men in their late 40s to early 60s. These men have typically earned enough to buy the car they have been dreaming of since high school. Others have plans to use their condos for boats and Jet Skis, he said.

“It’s part car culture and then a lot of people who are just interested in safe, secure storage,” he said.

Not only are these suites a place to store your items but also a piece of real estate that is very minimal compared to an upgrade to a home. With endless possibilities customize your own suite to fit your needs and store your classic and exotic car collection, RV, boats, jet skis, motorcycles and more.
